Data Wrangling & Transformation: Students will be able to effectively clean, transform, and prepare raw data for analysis using Power BI tools. 

Data Modeling & Visualization: Students will be able to create meaningful and insightful data models and visualizations (dashboards, reports) using Power BI features. 

Data Analysis & Interpretation: Students will be able to analyze data trends, identify patterns, and extract meaningful insights from visualized data. 

Business Intelligence Concepts: Students will understand the core principles and applications of Business Intelligence within an organizational context. 

Data-Driven Decision Making: Students will be able to use data-driven insights to inform and support effective business decisions. 

The fields of business intelligence and data visualization have become key investment priorities for organizations, driven by the rise of self-service tools, cloud-based technologies, and advanced visualizations. As businesses grow more information-rich, the ability to effectively harness, interpret, and present data is critical for strategic decision-making. This subject focuses on using Power BI to a good intermediate level for data visualization, empowering students to transform complex datasets into actionable insights through sophisticated visual representations.

Throughout the course, students will explore the core concepts, processes, and technologies of business intelligence. They will learn to apply modern analytics to evaluate business performance and operations, using Power BI to create dynamic dashboards and other data-driven visual tools. By working with professional-grade software, students will develop the skills to analyze and interpret data, understand business processes, and provide competitive business insights through informed decision-making.

Dr. Murli Viswanathan

DIRECTOR, IT PROGRAMS

Prof. Murli has a PhD in Computer Science from Monash University and a BS in Computer Science & Information Systems from Deakin University. Prof. Murli worked with Carnegie Mellon University for 16 years before Joining AIAT where he is the Director of IT programs. He lectures students in AI, Machine Learning, Analytics, Big Data, Software Engineering, and other areas. He has managed/coordinated over two dozen student projects with the South Australian Government departments and industry partners. Prof. Murli is a senior member of the Australian Computer Society Accenture Subject Matter Expert in Analytics. He has substantial experience with research projects, course and curriculum design and has delivered a variety of courses at all levels in information systems and computer science since 1996.
